Interview Panel Research Project

In 2003, JTG conducted a survey of interview panel members from numerous private and public sector organizations.  The panel members, who were surveyed in person or by telephone, were responsible for selecting short-listed architectural and engineering firms for new projects.  Individual surveys were conduced in person or by telephone.

We assessed fourteen elements that influence panel members' thinking during interviews, and ten factors that affect their final decisions.  We learned

• who panel members want to talk to during interviews;
• how and when to use visuals;
• how technical skills and relationship skills compare in importance;
• the biggest mistakes teams make before and during the interview.

We incorporate these significant insights when assisting teams in preparing for their interviews.
